CO2 emissions for new cars continues to fall

Average emissions of carbon dioxide in new vehicles fell by nearly 4 percent last year in the EU, with Portugal, the second lowest among 27, according to a study released today by the European Environment Agency.
Provisional data collected by the Agency together the 27 Member States indicate that the average CO2 emissions for passenger cars sold in the EU in 2010 fell 3.7 percent compared to last year, which is the second biggest annual decline since the beginning monitoring in 2000.

The average CO2 emissions for cars registered in the EU was 140 grams per kilometer, the report said that due to these developments, the European target of 130 grams of CO2/km will be reached before the deadline of 2015.
